CIBJO is the oldest international organisation in the jewellery sector, having been established in 1926. Its membership is made up largely of national jewellery trade organizations from more than 40 countries around the world. Many international jewellery sector’s private corporations and service providers are also affiliated to CIBJO through commercial membership. CIBJO’s purpose is to encourage harmonisation of standards in the jewellery trade and to promote international cooperation in the jewellery industry for the protection of consumer confidence. In particular, CIBJO developed its Blue Book system, contains standards in such areas as the grading, methodology and nomenclature of diamonds, coloured gemstones, pearls and other organic materials.
