The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) was set up by the Indian Ministry of Commerce in 1966 as one of several Export Promotion Councils (EPCs), and was entrusted with boosting Indian gem and jewellery exports. Since 1998, the GJEPC has been granted autonomous status. It is today the apex body of the Indian gems & jewellery industry and represents almost 6,000 exporters. Over the past decades, the GJEPC has emerged as a very active promoter of the diamond gem and jewellery sector, and its stated objective is to make India the preferred source for quality gems and jewellery.
